This week our Year 5 girls went on a fabulous trip through London’s history with a visit to the world famous Tower of London.
The Tower of London is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It is officially known as His Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London.
The castle was built by William the Conqueror in 1066 as a demonstration of Norman power, and it served as both fortress and gateway to the capital.
The Tower of London has served historically as a royal palace, a political prison, a place of execution, an arsenal, a royal mint, a menagerie, and a public records office.
